Aptimize Acquired By Riverbed

I’m very excited today to announce that Aptimize has been acquired by Riverbed Technology, effective immediately.

While we’re not disclosing the details and terms of the deal here, I would like to explain what this means for Aptimize, our customers and our partners.

When we founded Aptimize, our mission was to dramatically change the Web content optimization game, from both a theoretical and practical standpoint. Today’s web performance challenges can’t be solved by yesterday’s technology, and we spent the last two years developing a new approach and entirely new technologies that provide significant Web content acceleration for our customers.

As of today, we now have the backing, resources and support of one of the world’s leading technology companies to better serve our customers and continue to innovate.

For our customers – what was good before is going to be even better now. We’re more committed than ever to help you meet your Web performance goals, and we’re not slowing down a bit on our research and development. Mention customer service remaining a focus too?

We’re also going to be putting in a tremendous amount of work as part of the Riverbed team to provide you with some of the most robust and effective performance solutions on the market. Aptimize and Riverbed have long shared the same values and understanding of Web performance and acceleration, and we’re going continue to pursue that vision.

I’ve always talked about performance as a multi-faceted problem. It’s not just the infrastructure, or the network, or the software, or content. It’s all of that combined, and more, that causes today’s Web performance woes. The best way to solve them is to optimize across all facets of your technology environment.

Installing WAX with Armand

Aptimize technical engineer Armand Sultantono knows a lot about web performance and has installed WAX (Aptimize Website Accelerator) on a large number of websites and web applications. Our technical team and our partner network work globally, performing installations for whatever is convenient for you - either remotely or onsite.

Yes, Armand looks very comfortable on his couch in this video. Aptimize's remote installation techniques and reporting tools might be making his job a little too easy!

How to make the Techmeme faster

For our latest benchmarking, we’ve looked for common performance themes and added guidance for how to get these sites faster. Here are the load times of the Techmeme Leaderboard - a highly respected list of the sites that are most frequently linked to by Techmeme’s human editors and aggregation algorithms.

Our research shows us how long it takes for each of the sites to load - the average sites load time 11.42 seconds. These sites are very rich, content heavy sites – and its interesting to see not only the load times, but the common best and worst practices each is using, and the guidance for making them faster. The adoption of best practices already gives a big speed difference for sites in the Techmeme leaderboard.

Velocity 2011 is underway

Velocity 2011 kicked off today and we’re excited to be back for this, our third year at the conference. We always look forward to coming to Santa Clara and participating in the conference and catching up with customers, partners and web performance enthusiasts like Gil Givati, CEO Efficens Software and Pat Meenan, Technical Engineer at Google and Founder of WebPagetest.

COWI sees success with acceleration and monitoring

Great feedback from Frederik Bonde Lykke Nielsen at COWI. COWI is a Danish consulting group with over 6000 employees using SP-WAX to accelerate 15 SharePoint intranet sites and more than 15,000 projects.

“When we felt that our code was as optimized as we could, we started to look at other tools to help us. Here we choose Aptimize to gain even more milliseconds. We saw Aptimize as the best and fastest-to-implement solution that could be implemented without changes to our hardware architecture. We got a great result from day one, with a gain of approx 1 sec in Denmark and close to 3 seconds in the Gulf area - a huge success!”

COWI also endorses the use of monitoring tools and highlights the benefits of WebTuna to track end user response times. “WebTuna gave us the possibility to track response time around the world. Even more we got insight to where in the world the COWIportal was accessed. To our surprise users from more than 65 countries access the COWIportal in one month. WebTuna also pointed out trouble areas where the response was not acceptable so we could investigate and take action.”

Aptimize Wins Cyber Gold

We were very proud to win the Cyber Gold award at the Wellington Gold Awards held on Wednesday night. The award recognizes excellence in Information Technology with entrants from throughout the Wellington region.

It was great night, with an elaborate rugby themed event inline with the upcoming Rugby World Cup to be hosted by New Zealand later this year. Thanks to the judges, and to PricewaterhouseCoopers for sponsoring the Cyber Gold award.

Since Aptimize pioneered web content optimization in 2008, it has been exciting to watch the industry grow, and see new solutions enter the market. One of these solutions, Acceloweb has just been acquired by Limelight Networks. Limelight Networks is a content delivery network (CDN), and the acquisition of Acceloweb highlights how the different technologies – ADC, WOC, CDN and now web content optimization work together to deliver the necessary performance needed with today’s applications.

We just published our US Markerboard case study, which shows another example of the correlation between faster website and improved business results. These metrics are very important, with hard numbers that show the return on investment from accelerating a company’s website or intranet. We’re looking forward to seeing similar results from Limelight Networks/Acceloweb after they integrate the two solutions together.

In the earliest days of the market, these tangible proof points were harder to come by – but it seems as though each week lately brings with it a new bit of validation that shows just how rapidly this market is growing. The WCO case studies and customer stories are not hard to find anymore, this week the Acceloweb acquisition is shining a light on the market, and just last week it was Google who announced site speed reports as a new feature in Google Analytics.

It's an exciting time for this market, indeed.
